Note:
In a crossover cable, the transmit data is swapped with the receive data at one end so that data can be exchanged in the event of a direct connection. If the send and receive data were not swapped, no connection could be established. With Gigabit Ethernet, crossover cables can usually be dispensed with, as Auto-MDI-X (automatic detection) is defined in the standard and is supported by most devices.
